\nIt is considered one of the most picturesque beaches on Mallorca - the Playa de Formentor is located in the north-east of the island and lies in the nature reserve surrounded by shady pine forests, beautiful nature, fine sandy beach and turquoise water. The bay is located on the Formentor peninsula, about 10 km from Port Pollenca and is only about 1 km long. Especially in the summer months, many holidaymakers are naturally drawn to this beautiful spot. There are some rocks and stones in the water, but basically the access is very good and thanks to its sheltered location in the middle of the picturesque bay, it is also ideal for families with children. During the season, there is a bathing attendant for the safety of bathers.<\/p>\n

Especially in summer, many boats anchor in the bay and around the small offshore island of Illa de Formentor. There are sunshades and sunbeds on the beach as well as a restaurant where you can buy various snacks, pizza, burgers, etc. - but at higher prices than elsewhere due to the idyllic and somewhat remote location in the nature reserve. A car park is also available for a fee. Instead of driving, the bay can be reached very well by boat and there are also regular excursion boats to the bay from Port Alcudia and Port Pollenca.<\/p>\n

The Hotel Formentor is situated directly on the beach, somewhat hidden by a pine forest. Since it opened in 1930, many famous guests have stayed there, including Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill and F. Scott Fitzgerald. The hotel was sold by the Barcelo Group for a high 3-figure sum and will reopen in 2023 after an extensive renovation as a new addition to the Four Seasons chain. The exclusive hotel is only affordable for those guests who arrive with a big wallet.

\nIf you are travelling by car, we also recommend a detour to Cap de Formentor. The approach with many serpentines is not suitable for every stomach, but the view that greets you then is unbeatable. Easier to reach, however, is a stop at the Mirador Es Colomer with a fantastic view of the cliffs. From there you can hike to the Talaia d’Albercutx, the historic watchtower, and enjoy the view of the bay of Pollenca.<\/p>\n

Attention: During the summer months, access to Cap Formentor via the MA-2210 is restricted (15.06.-15.09. between 10-19 h). Instead, you can take the shuttle bus from Alcudia or Port de Pollenca for approx. 2 \u20ac\/person and enjoy a relaxed ride through Mallorca’s unspoilt nature. The bus leaves every \u00bd hour and lets you off at various viewpoints or at Playa de Formentor.<\/p>\n

The medieval town of Alc\u00fadia is always worth a visit. Here you will find many good restaurants and shops as well as some pretty boutique hotels. But what is really special about Alc\u00fadia is its completely preserved city wall with its fortress-like entrance gates. Alc\u00fadia’s history goes back a long way and includes Phoenician and Greek inhabitants, Roman settlement, pirates and Arab invaders, and finally the Christian conquest. Remnants of this exciting past can still be found everywhere in the narrow streets of the town. Don’t miss a visit to the nearby lively town of Port Alcudia, right on the harbour, where many events and activities take place throughout the summer.<\/p>\n

The beautiful town of Pollenca is about 10 minutes away by car, where you can stroll through the historic streets, the great shops and the lively market on Sundays.
